چکیده
The economic analysis of law enforcement holds that greater expected sanctions lead to compliance. literature on positive and negative incentives rewards sanctions—or carrots sticks—have identical first-order incentive effects. We extend the basic model in three ways. allow agents opt out regulatory regime, we for errors, who vary at least one trait addition their cost show that, following these realistic modifications model, two fundamental conclusions just described do not hold. Greater necessarily compliance; sticks are substitutes also adding taxes subsidies toolkit does expand set achievable outcomes.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccination: Its Expected and Unexpected Effects
Vaccination can induce immune response to protect people against antigenically related virus strains. Although influenza is a vaccine preventable infectious disease, seasonal influenza epidemics still occur annually; and occasional but dramatic pandemics emerge. The reason lies in two evolutionary events regarding influenza viruses: antigenic drift and shift. They continuously generate new stra...

Let t 0. Select numbers randomly from the interval [0, 1] until the sum is greater than t. Let (t) be the expected number of selections. We prove that (t) = et for 0 t 1. Moreover, limt→+∞ ( (t)− 2t)= 3 . This limit is a special case of our asymptotic results for solutions of the delay differential equation f ′(t) = f (t) − f (t − 1) for t > 1. We also consider four other solutions of this equa...

A new BMU is a separate functional unit with regulatory mechanisms for the recruitment, differentiation and activity of precursor cells, osteoclasts, osteoblasts, supporting cells and microvascular bed. It functions in the same sense as nephrons in the kidney7. Osteoclasts and osteoblasts...
